Abstract
The present invention regards a membrane element for a freestanding membrane. The membrane element comprises: a rib support structure; a thin film having a rib portion covering the rib support structure, a transition portion, and an unsupported portion; and a thin film transition structure extending from a lower end of the rib support structure. The thin film transition structure is characterized by a rounded cross-sectional profile.
