Abstract

Absorbent article comprising: a front panel; a back panel; a absorbent insert joined therebetween and comprising an absorbent core, front and back transversal edges and left and right longitudinal edges to form a perimeter thereof; wherein the front and back panels are joined together to define a pair of side seams, and said article comprises a transversal waist barrier proximal to the front and/or back transversal edges of the absorbent insert wherein said barrier comprises a plurality of liquid retarding layers and wherein said plurality of liquid retarding layers comprises at least one hydrophilic nonwoven and at least one layer selected from the group consisting of hydrophobic nonwovens, hydrophobic nonwovens, films such as substantially liquid impermeable films, and/or strands, at least two of said plurality of liquid retarding layers are un-joined at least at one location and are separated from one another by at least one gap.
