Abstract

A vehicle door assembly includes a vehicle body having an A pillar, a C pillar, an upper rail, and a rocker rail that together define an access opening. A front door is movably connected to the body near the A pillar, and a rear door is movably connected to the body near the C pillar. The rocker rail defines a front compartment adjacent the A pillar and a rear compartment adjacent the C pillar. A front actuator is positioned in the front compartment and a rear actuator is positioned in the rear compartment. A front linkage connects the front door, the front actuator, and the body near the A pillar, and a rear linkage connects the rear door, the rear actuator, and the body near the C pillar. Actuation of the actuators causes the linkages to move the front and rear doors between open and closed positions.
