Abstract

Methods, apparatus and computer programs for configuring a thermodynamic system are disclosed. In an embodiment, a computer-implemented method for configuring a thermodynamic system comprises obtaining information indicative of first and second temperature values and first and second entropy values respectively defining initial and target states of a fluid. One or more configurations of the thermodynamic system are identified based on component process information indicative of an effect of the component on the temperature and entropy of the fluid, and based on a cost function. The cost function is related to properties of each component, for example, its mass or size. Each configuration that is identified comprises a combination of components capable of converting the fluid from the initial state to the target state.
