Abstract

A volumetric content data processing system for processing first volumetric content data comprising first volumetric geometry data and first volumetric attribute data is described wherein the processing system comprises a memory and at least one processor, coupled to the memory, wherein the at least one processor is configured to: -perform a first encoding process (ENC-1(G)) on the first volumetric geometry data to obtain encoded volumetric geometry data; perform a first decoding process (DEC-1(G)) on the encoded volumetric geometry data to obtain second volumetric geometry data; generate video attribute data comprising at least one video attribute frame with attribute patches from the first volumetric attribute data using the second volumetric geometry data; -generate projection information that is used to generate the video attribute data comprising the at least one video attribute frame with attribute patches; execute at least one downscaling operation on the video attribute data to generate second video attribute data; perform a second encoding process (ENC-2(A)) on the second video attribute data to generate encoded video attribute data, wherein the second video attribute data is determined in an evaluation process using at least one trained attribute neural network and, optionally, based on at least one evaluation metric; provide a bitstream comprising at least the encoded volumetric geometry data and the encoded video attribute data wherein the projection information is contained in the bitstream or associated with the bitstream.
