Abstract

An intraoral scanning system (100) is disclosed that includes an intraoral scanning device (102) configured to acquire first and second light information reflected from a dental object (101). The system (100) further includes processors connected to the intraoral scanning device (102), with at least one of the processors being a remote computer (104). The processors may be configured to determine, in real-time, surface information from the first light information; generate a three-dimensional (3D) surface model (108) of the dental object (101) using the surface information; and determine internal information from the second light information. A wireless communication interface (106) communicates between the device (102) and the remote computer (104) over a wireless communication protocol including a first and a second wireless network protocol. The surface information is transmitted via the first wireless network protocol while the internal information is transmitted via the second wireless network protocol.
