Abstract
Provided is a method for decoding a picture (12) from a data stream, the method comprising: predicting a coding unit, CU, (10) of the picture (12) using intra block copy, IBC, by decoding (S10) a first syntax element from the data stream for the CU (10); responsive (S12) to the first syntax element having a first predetermined state, deriving a block vector, BV, (14) pointing to - a previously decoded portion (16) of the picture (12) relative to the CU (10) by decoding a first component of the BV (14) from the data stream and inferring a second component of the BV (14) to be zero, and deriving a predictor for the CU (10) by subjecting a version of the previously decoded portion (16) of the picture to flipping.
