Abstract
A prepreg including a carbon fiber tow impregnated with a thermosetting resin, wherein the carbon fiber tow has a strand tensile strength of 6.7 to 8.0 GPa and a strand tensile elastic modulus of 340 to 380 GPa; the carbon fiber tow has a thickness of 0.05 to 0.10 mm; the carbon fiber tow has a coefficient of variation of thickness of not more than 5.0%; the carbon fiber tow is substantially untwisted; and the prepreg has a fiber areal weight of 30 to 100 g/m<2> and a fiber volume fraction of 50 to 80%. A carbon fiber reinforced composite material obtained with the prepreg of the present invention is excellent in the balance of mechanical properties, can achieve weight reduction, and can be suitably used for sports applications such as golf shafts and fishing rods and for other general industrial applications.
