Abstract

There is provided an internal wall for a furnace for melting material, the internal wall configured to be connected to a plurality of internal walls of the furnace, so that, in use, the internal wall is a first internal wall of the plurality of internal walls of the furnace, and the first internal wall and the plurality of internal walls of the furnace define the melting chamber at least partly enclosed by the first internal wall and the plurality of internal walls; the first internal wall including: a burner aperture provided in the first internal wall, the burner aperture being configured to receive a part of a burner which outputs heat to generate heat within the melting chamber; and a barrier carried by the first internal wall, wherein the barrier comprises at least one barrier wall which extends outwardly from the first internal wall, the or each barrier wall being positioned at a respective barrier distance from the burner aperture wherein the or each barrier wall is arranged so that the barrier at least partly surrounds the burner aperture so that, in use, the barrier retains a layer of solidified material over a portion of the first internal wall around the barrier to protect the portion of the first internal wall from damage by forces and heat within the melting chamber.
