Abstract

Provided is a shaped refractory used in an electric furnace for producing molten iron by melting an iron-containing raw material containing iron, the shaped refractory having excellent erosion resistance. The shaped refractory contains at least one selected from the group consisting of aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, and carbon, and the content of magnesium oxide is not more than 10 mass%. The apparent porosity of the shaped refractory is preferably not more than 10 vol%. The content of the aluminum oxide of the shaped refractory is preferably not less than 70 mass%. The shaped refractory is preferably electrocast brick. The iron-containing raw material is preferably reduced iron obtained by a direct reduction ironmaking method. The electric furnace is preferably a submerged arc furnace.
