Abstract

A method of operating an apparatus (100-300) comprising a furnace (SF) with a radiation zone (RZ) and a convection zone (CZ) is proposed herein, wherein heating tubes (CO) are provided in the radiation zone (RZ) and the apparatus (100-300) comprises first heating equipment configured to heat the heating tubes (CO) by combusting a fuel gas (FG) with an oxidator gas (CA), second heating equipment configured to heat the heating tubes (CO) by providing electric energy (EE), and third heating equipment configured to provide a heating gas (HA, HG) to the convection zone (CZ) downstream of the radiation zone (RZ), the method including adjusting heat contributions of the first heating equipment, the second heating equipment and the third heating equipment to a total heat amount provided to the apparatus (100-300). Corresponding apparatus is also proposed. In an embodiment, the apparatus (100-300) is a steam cracking apparatus and the heating tubes (CO) are cracking coils.
