Abstract

The present disclosure refers to a coolant leakage detector (10) for detecting coolant in a battery system and a battery system including the same. The coolant leakage detector (10) includes at least one sensor housing (20; 20A, 20B); a first electrically conductive pin (30A) protruding from the at least one sensor housing (20; 20A, 20B); a second electrically conductive pin (30B) protruding from the at least one sensor housing (20; 20A, 20B); wherein the first electrically conductive pin (30A) and the second electrically conductive pin (30B) includes a different electrode material so that a galvanic cell voltage (Vgal) is created between the first electrically conductive pin (30A) and the second electrically conductive pin (30B) when the different electrode materials are fluid-connected by leaked coolant liquid; and a leakage detection monitoring unit (40) electrically connected to the first electrically conductive pin (30A) and the second electrically conductive pin (30B) and configured to sense leaked coolant based on the galvanic cell voltage (Vgal) between the first electrically conductive pin (30A) and the second electrically conductive pin (30B).
