Abstract

Aspects of the invention include light detection systems for small particle detection. Light detection systems according to the invention comprise: an optical adjustment component configured to split a beam of light received from a flow cell into first and second beams of light, wherein the first beam of light comprises a light scattered from a particle excited within the flow cell, and wherein the second beam of light comprises a fluorescence of the particle excited within the flow cell; a clustered wavelength division (CWD) light detection subsystem comprising a first light receiver configured to convey the first beam of light to a first light detection module and a second light receiver configured to convey the second beam of light to a second light detection module, wherein the first light detection module comprises a small particle detector; a first optical fiber configured to convey the first beam of light from the optical adjustment component to the first light receiver of the CWD light detection subsystem; and a second optical fiber configured to convey the second beam of light from the optical adjustment component to the second light receiver of the CWD light detection subsystem. In embodiments, the optical adjustment component comprises a beam splitter or a multimodal notch filter. Methods and kits are also provided.
