Abstract

Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for film grain scaling function estimation improvements. For example, a video processing device may obtain current film grain characteristics data associated with a current picture. The video processing device may obtain aggregated film grain characteristics data associated with a plurality of previous pictures. A film grain model may be determined for the current picture based on the current film grain characteristics data associated with a current picture and the aggregated film grain characteristics data associated with a plurality of previous pictures. The video processing device may include an indication of the determined film grain model for the current picture. In examples, the video processing device may combine the aggregated film grain characteristics data with the current film grain characteristics data. The film grain analysis may be performed based on the combined film grain characteristics data.
