Abstract

The invention is directed to a pigmented self-healing coating composition comprising polyurea microcapsules with a core having an inorganic porous material impregnated with vegetable oil. This inventive coating composition is designed to offer enhanced protective properties and self-repair capabilities for various substrates, especially concrete and steel. The invention further relates to a coated substrate, a method for self-healing said substrate, and the use of the self-healing composition to self-repair damages on the surface of the coated substrate. Described is also the process for synthesis of polyurea microcapsules for use in pigmented self-healing coating compositions, especially epoxy and epoxy-sulphide based coating compositions.
