Abstract

An airfoil (102) extends longitudinally between a leading edge (120) and a trailing edge (122), laterally between a first side (124A) and a second side (124B), and spanwise from a base (108) to a tip (112). The airfoil (102) includes a body section (126), a tip section (128) and a channel (130). The body section (126) extends spanwise from the base (108) to a shelf (136), and laterally between the first side (124A) and the second side (124B). The tip section (128) is connected to the body section (126), extends spanwise from the shelf (136) to the tip (112) and laterally between the second side (124B) and a sidewall (140). The channel (130) projects spanwise into the airfoil (102) from the tip (112) to the shelf (136) and laterally into the airfoil (102) from the first side (124A) to the sidewall (140). The tip section (128) is formed with a density that varies along the channel (130).
