Abstract

The rechargeable battery includes a can (110) accommodating an electrode assembly and an electrolyte in an inner space and a cap plate (120) coupled to the can to seal the can. A safety vent (160) is provided in the cap plate and configured to rupture at a predetermined pressure, and a vent guide (170) positioned inside the cap plate and facing the safety vent. The vent guide includes a pair of guide walls (53,56) configured to protrude to the outside of the cap plate when the safety vent is ruptured.
