Abstract

A pizza box blank, a pizza box formed from the blank, apparatus and a method of making the pizza box blank are proposed. The pizza box blank is formed with a base part and a lid part. The base part has a square central panel (2), rectangular side wall panels (5) extend from fold lines 4 formed into the flat card board like substrate. The base part provides a front wall panel and a back wall panel (13). The lid part has a central lid panel (27). Lid side walls (32, 33) extend from the sides of the central lid panel. A lid front wall 34 extends from the front edge of the lid central panel. The lid wall panels and the back base wall panel are connected to the lid central panel by fold lines (28, 29, 30 & 31). The fold lines are arcuate. arcuate vent cut lines 35 are formed in the lid side walls and the base back wall to interrupt the arcuate fold lines. When folded into a box for use the arcuate fold lines stress the central lid panel into a dome shape having a nadir at each corner of the central lid portion and reaching a maximum depth along lines which bisect each side. The base side walls are no more than the depth of the corners of the lid when the box is assembled. The resulting box substantially reduces the material requirement for the blank without detriment to the accommodation of pizza, and allows the folded up boxes to be stacked.
