Abstract
The present invention provides a alcohol oxidoreductase polypeptide converting 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furoic acid (HMFA) to 5-formyl-2-furoic acid (FFA) with a Km value of less than 15 mM selected from the group consisting of a polypeptide having the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 1, wherein (a) in said polypeptide amino acids at positions F412, F459 and W561 are V, W or R and A, respectively; or (d) in said polypeptide amino acids at positions F412, L560 and W561 are V, R or W and A, respectively; or (g) in said polypeptide amino acids at positions F412, L455 and W561 are V, W or R and A, respectively; preferably in the polypeptide (a) or (d) amino acids at positions F412, F459, L560 and W561 are V, W or R, R or W and A, respectively and this polypeptide converts FFA to 2,5 furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA).
