Abstract

An aircraft powerplant (20) assembly includes a rotor, a shroud (124), a casing (126), a structure (104) and an air system (102). The structure (104) circumscribes the casing (126) with a plurality of air plenums (144) formed by and disposed radially between the structure (104) and the casing (126). The air plenums (144) are arranged circumferentially around the axis (34) in an array. The air plenums (144) include a first plenum (144A) and a second plenum (144B). The air system (102) is configured to control a clearance (148) between the shroud (124) and an array of rotor blades (130) using air. The air system (102) includes a first air circuit (110) and a second air circuit (110). The first air circuit (110) is configured to direct a first flow of the air into the first plenum (144A) to cool a first section of the casing. The second air circuit (110) is configured to direct a second flow of the air into the second plenum (144B) to cool a second section of the casing (126).
