Abstract

A spark ignition engine 1 includes a first ignition plug 31 and a second ignition plug 32, each of which is attached to an engine body 10 and forcibly ignites air-fuel mixture in a cylinder 11 during a compression stroke or an expansion stroke. The first ignition plug and the second ignition plug are spaced apart in a predetermined direction. With ascent of a piston 5 during the compression stroke, two vortex flows of the air-fuel mixture are formed in alignment in the predetermined direction with a center of the cylinder being interposed therebetween and in opposite directions from each other. The first ignition plug and the second ignition plug forcibly ignite the air-fuel mixture before the compression top dead center.
