Abstract

A protection valve (10) for a commercial vehicle is provided which is electronically controllable. The protection valve (10) comprises a casing (11). The casing comprises a supply conduit (13) configured to receive gas (G), a circuit conduit (14) configured to provide the gas (G) to a pneumatic circuit of the commercial vehicle, and a bypass conduit (16). The protection valve (10) comprises a shut-off element (30) disposed in the casing (11) and displaceable to selectively open and close a gas passage between the supply conduit (13) and the circuit conduit (14). The protection valve (10) comprises a solenoid valve (40) accommodated within or projecting into the casing (11). The solenoid valve (40) is energizable and deenergizable to selectively cause the displacement of the shut-off element (30) by establishing a bypass flow through the solenoid valve (40) and the bypass conduit (16). Techniques of operating the protection valve (10) are also disclosed.
