Abstract

The present invention relates to an apparatus (100) and to a method for evaporating cryogenic fluids, said apparatus comprising a heat exchanger (105) at least partly immersed in a bath (140) of heat transfer medium, the heat exchanger (105) being configured for conducting a cryogenic fluid therethrough, a burner system (104) for combustion of a fuel by means of an oxidizing agent, said burner system comprising at least one fuel supply line (102) and a plurality of oxidizing agent supply lines (101, 113) for supplying the fuel and the oxidizing agent to a combustion chamber (114), the combustion chamber (114) being configured for the combustion of the fuel by the oxidizing agent, at least one oxidizing agent supply line (101) being configured for supplying primary oxidizing agent into the combustion chamber (114) for primary combustion in a primary combustion zone, at least another oxidizing agent supply line (113) being configured for supplying secondary oxidizing agent into the combustion chamber (114) for secondary combustion in a secondary combustion zone, a flue gas distributor system (103) connected to the combustion chamber (114) and configured for conducting the flue gas downstream away from the combustion chamber, the flue gas distributor system (103) extending into the bath of heat transfer medium, wherein said apparatus (100) further comprises a water injector system (130) configured to inject water droplets of a predetermined maximum size into the secondary combustion zone.
