Abstract

A controller (100) controls driving of an image forming device (12) to form a patch image on an intermediate transfer body (125). At the same time, the controller (100) calculates a rate of change of a background density based on a reference background density as a reference value of a density of a surface of the intermediate transfer body (125) detected by a density detection sensor (128) at a predetermined detection timing, and the background density newly detected by the density detection sensor (128) after the reference background density is detected. The controller (100) corrects the background density and an image density of the patch image detected by the density detection sensor (128) using the calculated rate of change. The controller (100) adjusts the image forming conditions based on the corrected background density and image density.
