Abstract

The present patent application relates to a method and a device for drying hygroscopic polymer granulate in a continuous process, wherein liquid is extracted from the granulate by means of drying means. During the drying process, the granulate is caused to vibrate by means of vibration means with a vibration frequency higher than 15,000 Hertz. These vibration means comprise one or more plate-shaped vibrating elements that are positioned in a channel and are physically in direct contact with the granulate. Herein, at least one ultrasonic transducer is directly mounted on the plate-shaped vibrating element to cause it to vibrate. It is the object of the invention to maximize the acoustic transfer of the ultrasonic vibration energy to the granulate without damping losses via an outer wall, in order to provide an improved method and device that considerably accelerate the drying process and consume significantly less energy.
