Abstract

A method (100) for detecting partial discharges in medium or high voltage equipment (1) based on measurement data (3) recorded by at least one sensor (2), the method (100) comprising the steps of:• determining (110) whether the measurement data (3) comprises at least one partial discharge contribution (4) that∘ is plausible to have been produced by the occurrence of a partial discharge pulse somewhere in the equipment (1) and propagation of the resulting signal to the at least one sensor (2) and that∘ reappears repeatedly in a statistical manner,wherein the determining whether a contribution is plausible to be a partial discharge contribution (4) comprises: in response to determining (111) that a plurality of pulses have a consistent pulse form given by the propagation or transfer of the signal from their source to the at least one sensor (2), determining (112) that the pulses are partial discharge pulses coming from the same origin; and• if at least one such partial discharge contribution (4) is present, determining (120) that partial discharges are occurring in the equipment (1).
