Abstract

An optical input-output device comprises an optical network (1) having a plurality of read units (1.1) and a plurality of write units (1.2) and is configured for performing read and write operations on an optical medium (2) having a plurality of memory cells (2.1). Each read unit (1.1) is configured to receive a read signal and propagate the read signal further towards the optical medium (2) for reading out information stored in a memory cell (2.1). Each read unit (1.1) is further configured to receive the read signal modulated by the memory cell back from the optical medium (2). Each write unit (1.2) is configured to receive a write signal and propagate the write signal further towards the optical medium (2) for writing information into a memory cell.
