Abstract

An optical computing device (10) comprises an optical network having a plurality of multiplier units (1.1) and an optical medium (2) having a plurality of memory cells (2.1). Each multiplier unit (1.1) is in optical communication with a memory cell (2.1). Each multiplier unit (1.1) is configured to receive a first input signal and propagate the first input signal further towards a first memory cell (2.1) of the optical medium (2) for multiplying the first input signal with a first weight factor stored in the first memory cell (2.1). Each multiplier unit (1.1) is further configured to receive the first input signal multiplied with the first weight factor back from the first memory cell (2.1) to generate from the multiplied first input signal a first output signal for further processing.
