Abstract

The present invention relates to thermal management systems for batteries, particularly batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs), stationary generators, or other high-performance energy storage applications. An energy storage device including a major component that includes first and second major subcomponents configured to interconnect at a thermally isolable interface arranged therebetween. The first and second major subcomponents being constituent components of an electrochemical system that is configured to store energy for the energy storage device and cooled via fluid flow in a primary outlet direction across the thermally isolable interface. The first and second major subcomponents being arranged such that the first major subcomponent is thermally isolable from the second major subcomponent for a minimum isolation duration when the energy storage device experiences a detrimental thermal event.
