Abstract

An image reading apparatus includes: a reading unit configured to read a document; a first cover portion forming a part of an upper surface of the image reading apparatus, the first cover portion being configured so that the document read by the reading unit can be placed thereon; a second cover portion positioned below the first cover portion and configured to cover an upper portion of the reading unit, the second cover portion forms a part of an exterior housing of the image reading apparatus; and a conveyance path for conveying a document inserted from an insertion opening between the first cover portion and the second cover portion toward the reading unit.
