Method for determining a colour gamut of a printing system. The method comprises the steps of printing samples of an object on a substrate. The samples vary with respect to a thickness of the samples and ink ratios of the ejected inks. For each printed sample a reflectance is measured by means of a spectrophotometer. The measured reflectances are fit with a formula derived from the Kubelka-Munk theory comprising derivations of an absorption coefficient and a scattering coefficient of the ejected inks and transmission and/or reflection coefficients at interfaces between ink and air and vice versa, and between ink and substrate. A full colour gamut of the printer is determined by using the Kubelka-Munk theory by means of the derived coefficients and the derived coefficients are stored in a print controller of the printing system.

The invention relates to sheet printer and a method for a sheet printer. The sheet printer comprises a media support plane, a print controller, a print head and a user interface comprising a preview window comprising a representation of the media support plane. The print controller is configured to receive at least one digital image intended to be printed on a media piece, to receive position information of the position of the media piece on the media support plane, to display a representation of the media piece in a preview window, to determine a first part of the at least one digital image which fits on the media piece when printed and a second part of the at least one digital image which does not fit on the media piece and will not be printed, and to display a representation the first part as an at least partial overlay on the presentation of the media piece according to at least one first visual parameter. The print controller is further configured to display a representation of the second part in the preview window according to at least one second visual parameter, which deviates from the at least one first visual parameter.

A method for printing a digital image in swaths with a swath time corresponding to the width w1 of the digital image on the image receiving medium 2 in the main scanning direction X. The print controller 10 issues a trigger that a spitting action for at least part of the printing elements 8 of the print head 4a, 4b, 4c, 4d, 4e needs to be performed. A swath time of subsequent swaths is gradually increased until the print head reaches a maintenance tray 11 at a side of the print surface 1. The print head stays at the maintenance tray 11 until air between the print head and the maintenance tray 11 has approximately reached a standstill. Then the at least part of the printing elements 8 of the print head are spitting marking material in the maintenance tray 11. After the spitting the swath time of subsequent swaths is gradually decreased until the swath time is corresponding again with the width w1 of the digital image on the image receiving medium 2 in the main scanning direction X. The invention further relates to a digital inkjet printer configured to perform the above mentioned method.

The invention relates to a flatbed printer and a method for the flatbed printer. The flatbed printer comprises a flatbed area for placing at least one media piece to be printed upon. The flatbed area comprises a plurality of non-printing areas on which ejecting recording material is not allowed, but on which media piece placing is allowed. The print controller receives at least one print job comprising print data to be printed on the at last one media piece and controls the printing of the at least one received print job on the at least one media piece. An armature is constructed to move over the flatbed area in at least one direction and a print head is configured to eject recording material on the at least one media piece and attached to the armature. The print controller receives a digital image intended to be printed by ejecting the recording material directly on the flatbed area, and determines - before printing of the received digital image - for each non-printing area in the flatbed area which is covered by at least part of the ejected recording material when the digital image is directly printed on the flatbed area, an environment of and including the non-printing area. The print head is then ejecting the recording material directly on the flatbed area according to the digital image except in each environment determined by the print controller.

A method of inkjet printing an elevated structure on a print medium which comprises the steps of depositing radiation curable marking material on the print medium, such that an array of spaced apart drops is formed, curing said spaced apart drops by irradiating the drops, forming the drops into a plurality of spaced apart, out-of-plane structures by repeatedly depositing a further drop of radiation curable marking material on each drop and curing the further drops, thereby adhering the further drops to the drop, wherein each repetition increases a height of the structures with respect to the surface. A backlight is provided behind the print medium to realize visual effects for an observer on the front side.
