Abstract
A user input device (102) for an electronic device (100) includes an illumination source (402) and an image sensor module (406). A translucent layer (408) is disposed above the illumination source (402) and the image sensor module (406). The translucent layer (408) includes at least a first set of patterns (414) disposed thereon. A deformable layer (418) is disposed above the translucent layer (408). The deformable layer (418) includes at least a second set of patterns (420). The illumination source (402) is configured to illuminate at least the portion of the translucent layer (408). The image sensor module (404) being configured to a detect a third set of patterns (804) when the first set of patterns (414) and the second set of patterns (420) are displaced with respect to each other.
