Abstract

Proposed is an optical transmitter for an optical network. The transmitter comprises a first mirror and a second mirror, a semiconductor optical amplifier as well as a first optical filter and a second optical filter. The first optical filter and the second optical filter are in series connection to each other. The first mirror is located, such that a first fraction of an optical signal emitted by the semiconductor optical amplifier is reflected back to the semiconductor optical amplifier. A second fraction of an optical signal emitted by the semiconductor optical amplifier is transmitted towards the series connection of the optical filters. The second mirror is optically coupled to the first or the second filter, such that the first and the second mirror delimit a cavity, which comprises the semiconductor optical amplifier and at least one of the optical filters and which is adapted to generate a coherent optical signal.
