Zusammenfassung
The present invention relates to a method for encoding a first sequence of integer coefficient values ({x*(i ,j,2l-1)}=1, 2,...; {X*(i,j,21)}l=1,2,...) indicative of coupling coefficient values. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, the method comprises determining a second sequence of numbers of digits for encoding the respective integer coefficient values of the first sequence, the second sequence comprising, as first element, a first number of digits for encoding the first integer coefficient value of the first sequence, and as second and subsequent elements, constrained numbers of digits that are greater than or equal to respective minimum required numbers of digits for encoding the second and subsequent integer coefficient values of the first sequence. The constrained numbers of digits are such that any two successive elements of the second sequence do not differ from each other by more than a given threshold value. The method further comprises encoding difference values between the successive elements of the second sequence; and encoding the integer coefficient values of the first sequence using the respective numbers of digits of the second sequence. The present invention also relates to a corresponding encoder, to a method for decoding, and to a corresponding decoder. |

In accordance with an embodiment of the invention, the decoding arrangement comprises an analog multiplexer (301) with input terminals (311) coupled to respective subscriber lines (L 1 ; L 2 ; L N ), and configured to cross-connect in the analog domain a selected one of the input terminals (311 2 ) coupled to a given one of the subscriber lines (L 2 ) to an output terminal (312) of the analog multiplexer; an analog detector (306) with an input terminal (314) coupled to the output terminal of the analog multiplexer, and configured to detect the presence of a command signal (PRP_trigger_signal) transiting over the given one subscriber line by characterization of a line voltage present across the given one subscriber line; a decoder (305) with an input terminal (313) coupled to the output terminal of the analog multiplexer, and configured to decode an information payload from the command signal or from a further command signal transiting over the given one subscriber line; and a controller (307; 308) coupled to the analog detector, the decoder and the analog multiplexer, and configured, in the event of the command signal being detected over the given one subscriber line, to enable the decoding of the information payload from the command signal or the further command signal, else to select another one of the input terminals of the analog multiplexer coupled to another one of the subscriber lines as to be cross-connected to the output terminal of the analog multiplexer. |

Zusammenfassung
The present invention relates to a communication unit comprising an echo canceler (140) for generating an echo suppression signal (ECHOSUP) to be superimposed at a receiver input to a receive analog signal comprising at least one of a far-end signal (RXSIG) received from a transmission medium (200) and an echo signal (ECHOSIG) resulting from a near-end signal (TXSIG) being transmitted from a transmitter output over the transmission medium and coupling through an echo coupling path ( h E k ) into the receiver input; and a controller (150) for controlling the operation of the echo canceler. The controller applies at least one first gain value (±1, ²1, ³1) across the echo coupling path for the receive analog signal to be power-constrained below a first power threshold at the receiver input, receives first measurements of the receive analog signal performed while the near-end signal is being transmitted with the at least one first gain value in force and without the echo suppression signal being generated, and determines a first estimate h ^ E k of the echo coupling path from the first measurements. The echo canceler generates the echo suppression signal based on the first estimate. The controller thereupon substitutes at least one nominal gain value (±2, ²2, ³2) used for regular communication over the transmission medium for the respective at least one first gain value, receives second measurements of the receive analog signal performed while the near-end signal is being transmitted with the at least one nominal gain value in force and while the echo suppression signal based on the first estimate is being generated and superimposed to the receive analog signal, and determines a second estimate h ^ ^ E k of the echo coupling path from the second measurements. The echo canceler then adjusts the echo suppression signal based on the second estimate. The present invention also relates to a method for controlling an echo suppression signal. |
