Abstract

A honeycomb filter 20 includes a corner trapping layer 24b having a high porosity region 35b. Accordingly, the permeation resistance of the corner trapping layer 24b is lower than that in the case where the high porosity region 35b is not provided. Specifically, the permeation resistance when a fluid passes through the corner trapping layer 24b and a partition 22b between large-large cells, the partition 22b including a corner partition 22d, decreases. Consequently, for example, in the case where PM of an exhaust gas is deposited on the side trapping layer 24a and the flow rate of the exhaust gas passing through the corner trapping layer 24b and the partition 22b between large-large cells becomes higher than that before the deposition, pressure loss in the corner trapping layer 24b is further decreased and pressure loss in the trapping layer 24 can be further decreased on the whole.
