Abstract

A cartridge seal for a wheel hub rolling bearing unit includes first and second metal cores (11, 13) having a L-shaped cross-section. First and second elastic seals (12, 14) are attached to the cores (11, 13). The first elastic seal (12) has a lip (42, 43) in sliding contact with an outer peripheral face of a cylindrical portion (31) of the second metal core (13) and the second elastic seal (14) has a lip (53) in sliding contact with an inner peripheral face of an axially outer-side portion (23) of a cylindrical portion (21) of the first metal core (11). The first elastic seal (12) further has a first cylindrical portion (45) in contact with an inner peripheral face of an axially inner-side portion of the cylindrical portion (21) of the first metal core (11) and a second cylindrical portion (46) in contact with an outer peripheral face of an axially outer-side portion of the cylindrical portion (21) of the first metal core (11). The first and second cylindrical portions (45, 46) are connected to each other via connecting pieces (47) inserted into through-holes (24) formed in and passing radially through an axially intermediate portion of of the cylindrical portion (21) of the first metal core (11) at predetermined intervals in a circumferential direction.
