Abstract

A saw comprising: a base assembly (2); a saw assembly (38) pivotally mounted on the base assembly which is capable of pivoting towards or away from the base assembly to a cut a work piece located on the base assembly; a motor (108, 110) mounted within the saw assembly; a fan mounted within the saw assembly which is rotationally driven by the motor; a drive spindle (48) rotatably driven by the motor via a drive mechanism; wherein the drive mechanism comprises a first rotatable shaft (128), a drive wheel (136) mounted on the first rotatable shaft, a second rotatable shaft (48) parallel to the first rotatable shaft, a driven wheel (144) mounted on the second rotatable shaft, a drive belt (146) wrapped around the drive wheel and driven wheel to transfer rotary motion of the first rotatable shaft to the second rotatable shaft characterised in that the fan generates an air flow which passes over the drive belt.
