Abstract
The present invention refers to a method (62) and device (29) for processing trace data (TD) generated by an optical time domain reflectometer (47), said trace data (TD) describing a response signal (RS) received by the reflectometer (47) from an optical fibre (19). In order to generate high quality ODTR trace data using an embedded ODTR (47), it is proposed that the method comprises receiving the trace data (TD); and compensating (69, 79) distortions of the trace by applying a compensation model (IFM) to the trace data (TD), the compensation model (IFM) being derived from transmission characteristics of a signal path (60) within the reflectometer (47).
