Abstract
The present invention refers to a method (75) and device (25, 31, 43) for assessment of a telecommunication line (13, 55), the telecommunication line (13, 55) comprising a wire pair (60) for differential signaling. In order to be able to detect that the line (13, 55) is insufficiently balanced, it is suggested that the method (75) comprise determining (77) measurement data, the measurement data describing a frequency dependent function (Hlog), wherein values of the frequency dependent function depend on at least one transmission characteristic of the telecommunication line (13, 55); searching (79) for local minima (71) in the frequency depending function; and in case that at least one local minimum (71) has been found, determining (81) the frequency of the at least one local minimum (71) and deciding (81) based on the frequency of said minimum (71) on whether or not the at least one local minimum (71) is caused by insufficient balance of the line (13, 55).
