Abstract

A backlight unit (901) is configured for use in an image display device (1). The backlight unit (901) includes a structural unit, e.g. a bottom chassis (10) or a mold frame (25). The structural unit (10; 25) includes a first side portion and a second side portion in plan-view. The first side portion has a truss structure (11-14, 16, 27). The backlight unit further includes a light source (90) that is disposed between the first side portion and the second side portion in plan-view and is configured to emit light.
