Abstract
A sensor element 101 includes an element body 102 having an elongate rectangular parallelepiped shape and including solid electrolyte layers with oxygen ion conductivity, an outer pump electrode 23 disposed on a first surface 102a of the element body 102, and a protective layer 84 covering at least a part of a second surface 102b of the element body on a side opposite to the first surface 102a and including one or more exposed spaces (an lower space 92) to which the second surface 102b is exposed.
