Abstract
A spar cap (46) for a rotor blade (22) of a wind turbine (10) may generally include an assembly of pre-cured laminate plates (100) stacked on one top of the other, with the assembly including an outermost pre-cured plate (100A), an innermost pre-cured plate (100G) positioned opposite the outermost pre-cured plate (100A) and a plurality of intermediate pre-cured plates (100B-100F) stacked directly between the outermost (100A) and innermost pre-cured plates (100G). The outermost pre-cured plate (100A) may be configured to be positioned adjacent to an inner surface (50) of a body shell (28) of the rotor blade (22). In addition, the outermost pre-cured plate (100A) may define a plate thickness (112A) that differs from a plate thickness (112B) defined by the innermost pre-cured plate (100G) by at least 50%.
