One object is to correctly detect a sheet depending on a characteristic of the sheet transported on a transport path. A sheet handling apparatus includes a transport unit that transports a sheet along a transport path, a detection unit that detects the sheet transported by the transport unit, and a control unit that changes a setting of the detection unit based on a type of the sheet transported by the transport unit.
