Abstract

A method of forming a part includes applying first fiber tows (184) according to a pattern to form a first ply (182) of a set of plies (180). The method further includes applying second fiber tows (194) according to the pattern to form a second ply (192) of the set of plies (180) that overlies the first ply (182). The pattern of the second ply (192) is shifted relative to the pattern of the first ply (182) by an offset distance based on a period of the first fiber tows (184) and a number of plies having the pattern in the set of plies.
