Abstract
A liquid class (58) comprises control parameters (62) for controlling a laboratory automation device (12) when handling a liquid (28) of a liquid type (60) assigned to the liquid class (58) with a pipette tip (34) of a pipette tip type (64) assigned to the liquid class (58). A method for optimizing the liquid class (58) comprises: initializing a genetic algorithm with a start liquid class (58a) by generating a set (66) of liquid classes by modifying control parameters (62) of the start liquid class (58a); optimizing the liquid class (58) iteratively with the genetic algorithm by: applying liquid classes (58) from the set (66) of liquid classes to the laboratory automation device (12), which performs at least one aspiration and dispensing measurement for each applied liquid class (58), wherein during an aspiration and dispensing measurement, the laboratory automation device (12) is controlled with the control parameters (62) of the respective applied liquid class (58) and a dispensed volume (44) of a liquid of the liquid type (60) is measured; discarding liquid classes (58b) from the set (66) of liquid classes, when a selection function, which evaluates the at least one measured dispense volume (44) for a liquid class (58b), indicates this; adding liquid classes (58c) to the set (66) of liquid classes, which are generated by modifying liquid classes (58) from the set (66) of liquid classes; and, in the end, selecting an optimized liquid class (58d) from the set (66) of liquid classes.
