Abstract

A laser apparatus comprises a periodically structured active region, a phase shift region adjacent to the periodically structured active region, a coating adjacent to the periodically structured active region, a first driver to inject a current into the periodically structured active region to generate an amplitude modulated optical output, and a second driver to inject a counter-modulating current into the phase shift region to shift a wavelength of emission of the laser apparatus.
