Abstract

An annular seal assembly (22) for use in a fluid mover (10), such as a compressor, having a tangentially-cut ring assembly (30) and a radially-cut ring assembly (32), each ring assembly having arcuate segments, where each arcuate segment of the the tangentially-cut ring assembly (30) has a plurality of passages (70) extending from the outer peripheral face (37) to within at least 1.0 mm of the inner peripheral face (38), wherein after wearing in of the seal, the passages (70) extend through the tangentially-cut ring assembly (30) for pressure balancing.
