Abstract

A vehicle drive assist device (10) includes an ECU (90). The ECU (90) determines whether an object recognition condition meets a predetermined condition, which means that a driver of the vehicle (100) recognizes the presence of an object (200) ahead of the vehicle (100), based on the state of an operation of an operator of the vehicle (100) by the driver. The ECU (90) executes deceleration control when the collision index value is smaller than a second index value smaller than a first index value and the ECU (90) determines the object recognition condition does not meet the predetermined condition. The ECU (90) does not execute the deceleration control when the ECU (90) determines the object recognition condition meets the predetermined condition even when the collision index value is smaller than the second index value.
