Abstract

A monitoring system (400) for a reel assembly (300) of an agricultural harvester (100) includes a load sensor (402) configured to couple to a non-rotating element of a tine rotation mechanism (306) of the reel assembly (300). The tine rotation mechanism is configured to drive tines (302) of the reel assembly (300) to rotate relative to a rotating structure (304) of the reel assembly (300), and the load sensor (402) is configured to output a sensor signal indicative of a mechanism load applied by the tines (302) to the non-rotating element of the tine rotation mechanism (306). The monitoring system (400) also includes a controller (406) communicatively coupled to the load sensor (402). The controller (406) includes a memory (410) and a processor (408), and the controller (406) is configured to receive the sensor signal from the load sensor (402) and to determine a crop load of crops acting on the tines based on the mechanism load.
