Abstract

The fixing device (20) includes a fixing rotator (25) rotatable in a rotation direction and forming a loop, a nip formation pad (26) inside the loop, a pressure rotator (30) pressed against the nip formation pad (26) via the fixing rotator (25) to form a fixing nip, a sliding sheet (70) between the nip formation pad (26) and the fixing rotator (25), and a holder (72). The sliding sheet (70) covers the nip formation pad (26) and has a nip entrance (Nin) at an upstream end of the fixing nip in the rotation direction and a face contacting the fixing rotator (25). The holder (72) holds an upstream end portion of the sliding sheet (70) upstream from the nip formation pad (26) in the rotation direction and includes a holding plate (74a) disposed on the face and separated from the nip entrance (Nin) by 5 mm or more.
